Wild Edibles Walk and Class with Heath Johnson of DeKalb County Community Garden
Spring Wildcrafting Day - Identify, collect, and enjoy the wild edibles of Spring. This class is for all levels of harvesters to learn foraging, identification, safety, and ethics of wild harvesting. Go on a wild forage, then prepare and enjoy your bounty! Wellspring's diverse farmed and natural areas offer a perfect setting for learning about wild foods! This class welcomes beginners to learn the basics of foraging, identification, safety, and ethics of harvest. People of all experience levels are encouraged to attend and refine their skills, share knowledge with the group and ask lots of questions in order to enrich experiences! We will practice some brief awareness exercises, followed by a plant walk and harvest, and return to assemble a wild salad and enjoy other dishes with wild ingredients. If there is extra time we will practice the art of cracking black walnuts with stones or learn to twist plant fibers into cordage. Bring on the good weather and the wild food! $55 by 5/2 $60 after.
