The Paradox of Being a Black Police Officer in Today’s Society
Join the Cedarburg and Grafton Libraries for a four-week lecture series, Monday nights at 6:30 pm. from June 19 through July 10, on topics related to Building a Better World (the theme of this year’s Summer Reading Program). Officer Corey Saffold, a police officer employed by the Madison Police Department, will be at the Cedarburg Library to discuss his experiences as a black policeman in the wake of multiple, highly publicized killings of unarmed African-Americans by police officers. Additionally, Officer Saffold will address the paradox of being in law enforcement during a time when police are viewed as an enemy and are often not trusted, especially among the African-American community. He will also offer his strategy for engaging the community at large around these issues that have affected him personally. No registration required. For more information, please contact the Cedarburg Library at 262-375-7640.
