Riveredge Nature Center FREE Day of Family Fun
Riveredge Nature Center is delighted to be a part of the Greater Milwaukee Foundation?s August Gift to the Community. Along with our friends and partners at other environmental education organizations in the area, the Foundation?s Gift will allow us to celebrate the wonders of the natural world and the importance and fun of getting outdoors through a free day of special programs and activities. On August 22nd from 9 AM to 5 PM, join Riveredge for a FREE day of: - Recreational tree climbing (9:30 AM- 4:30 PM): swing from the trees with harnesses and trained facilitators. To ensure safety and enough time in the trees, we must limit the amount of climbers at one time. For this reason, you will need to register in advance and tree climbing spots must be signed up for online ahead of the event. We have ten spots for each half hour session of the day, starting at 9:30 AM. All climbs are totally free, but you will need to register at our website. Minimum age for tree climbing is 7 years old. - River exploration on Trailblazer Island: wade across the Milwaukee River with a staff member and explore the different natural play areas on our magical Trailblazer Island- a favorite spot of our summer campers. - Geocaching: A cross between treasure hunting and orienteering, geocaching has become a popular way to explore new places and have fun outdoors. Whether you're a geocaching novice or expert, see if you can hunt down our caches! - Lake sturgeon rearing at the streamside rearing facility: See the sturgeon we've been rearing for our efforts to reintroduce them to the Milwaukee River and learn more about this awesome prehistoric fish. - Good Ol' Relaxin' at our new Hammock Village: yep, really, a village of hammocks. - Tile painting at the outdoor classroom: paint a tile for display at the Silo mural in our Children's Natural Play Area - 4th Grader Free Family Membership Sign-up: Riveredge is excited to offer a new program providing all fourth graders and their families a free family membership to our center. Keep the nature exploration and adventure going all year long. - Fairy & gnome house building - Little tots scavenger hunt - Geology "Dig" at Andy's Climbing Rocks - Cultural activity at the Teepee
