Ozaukee Master Gardeners March Presentation
New and Underused Plants Topic of Master Gardener Presentation Looking for some new plants to perk up your boring gardens? Join Ozaukee Master Gardeners in welcoming Brent Horvath for his virtual presentation, “New and Underused Plants” on Thursday, March 28 at 7:00 pm. President and grower at Intrinsic Perennial Gardens, Inc. in Hebron, Illinois, Horvath has developed over 100 new perennials including Andropogon gerardii ‘Blackhawks’ Pennisetum ‘Red Head,’ Rudbeckia x ‘American Gold Rush’, over 10 Geum varieties such as ‘Mai Tai, and 20 Sedums including ‘Thundercloud’ and ‘Pure Joy.’ He holds over 60 plant patents. In his talk, Horvath will be sharing information about some tried and true old plants and many new ones including Ornamental Grasses. These plants were bred and selected by Horvath to thrive in the tough conditions of the Midwest with hot humid summers and cold wet winters. Horvath is a third-generation gardener, second-generation nurseryman, and first-generation American. He literally grew up in the business, working for his Mom and Dad at their companies, Intrinsic Landscaping, Intrinsic Perennial Gardens, and Flowers by Intrinsic. In 2014, Horvath published the award winning book “The Plant Lovers Guide to Sedums”. In 2016 he was awarded the PPA Grower of the Year award. He also contributes plant articles to select magazines like Fine Gardening on select subjects. Intrinsic Perennial Gardens, Inc. lists over 500 varieties and sells many more. Main crops include ornamental grasses, sedums, geums, natives, and plants for the greenroof trade.
