Ozaukee Master Gardeners March Presentation
“Pesticides threaten pollinators, even at tiny amounts far below lethal levels, and even from formulations intended to combat weeds or plant diseases rather than insect pests,” reports Anupreksha Jain. Join Ozaukee Master Gardeners on Thursday, March 27 at 7:00 pm via Zoom for “Pesticides and Pollinators” presented by Anupreksha Jain, Entomology PhD student at UW-Madison. Along with a report of her findings, she will discuss how we can mitigate these risks in our backyards and communities. In addition, Jain will share her own research on bumble bee behavior and her work with the Insect Ambassadors outreach initiative. At UW Madison, Jain works with Dr. James Crall on global change and pollination ecology in agroecosystems. She uses emerging technologies like AI and computer vision to study how stressors like pesticide use and drought affect the behavior, health, and effectiveness of pollinators. She is originally from India and earned a BS in Biological Sciences from Cornell University prior to moving to Wisconsin. She is also passionate about public outreach and co-leads the Insect Ambassadors program hosted by the UW Madison Department of Entomology. Sponsored by Ozaukee Master Gardeners, all are welcome to attend this free virtual talk. Registration is required. Visit www.ozaukeemastergardeners.org to sign up.
