Healing the Heart ~ Addiction Recovery Workshop and Referral
Our Savior Lutheran in Grafton invites everyone to our third annual "Healing the Heart" Workshop on Saturday, September 17 from 8:00 am to 11:30am.
There's so much hurt in today's world without the comfort and strength offered by God in his Word. That is especially needed for individuals and families that live through the ongoing challenge of addiction. Counselor Mical Schaffer is our keynote speaker, a graduate of WLC and has his Masters from UWM. He and his wife have three children and have fostered 11 high needs children. He focuses on patients with substance abuse issues, most often teens. Pastor Paul Kelm, who has served as pastor, campus pastor, church consultant and currently preaches at Our Savior in Grafton, will set the tone and mood. Pastor Wagner, who has counseled and cared for many with great loss, will host and direct a panel discussion tapping into the experience of Officer David Podewils from the Grafton Police force, therapist Holly Schneider and a husband / wife who have learned to survive and thrive.
Music for reflection will be provided by Joey Schumann and the Lutheran Ceili Orchestra throughout the morning. Joey, who is family physician with Affinity Medical Group in Appleton, plays Uilleann Bagpipes, Tinwhistle, Keyboards, Duduk and Violin. Rebekah Brunoehler will join him on the Fiddle, her husband Jake on drums. Andrew Ruh on acoustic guitar, Kirsten Probst & Martha Johnson as vocalists and with Emily Warnke on harp. Celtic music holds attention through joyful rhythm and happy tunes. Yet it calls in hauntingly beautiful motifs to the soul: come and worship the Trinity! Much of the music for this service has been recorded and is available on their recent CD.
Guests from the community are invited. A continental breakfast will be provided along with complementary refreshments throughout the morning. There is no cost except a free will offering to offset expenses for the musicians. Follow up through prayer, referral, and Support Group opportunities will also be shared. Register online at OurSaviorGrafton.org. For further information call 262-377-6363 or email oslc@wi.rr.com.
