Cedarburg Spur Fiber Arts Weekend
Cedarburg Spur Fiber Arts Trail hosts their 2nd Annual Fiber Arts Weekend in the Cedarburg-Grafton-Thiensville area of eastern Wisconsin. Seven award-winning fiber artists, a national top 10 quilt shop, a Milwaukee news-poll favorite art gallery and the Wisconsin Museum of Quilts & Fiber Arts will offer a variety of activities including exhibits, workshops, studio tours, artist demos, woolen mill tours, make & take crafts and an After Hours ?Sip & Stitch? at the Grafton Arts Mill. March 18 ? 19, 2015. Hours are Friday, 3:00 p.m. ? 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, 10:00 a.m. ? 5:00 p.m. Along the 15-stop, self-guided tour, the Wisconsin Museum of Quilts & Fiber Art in Cedarburg offers free admission for the weekend and welcomes visitors into their Barn Gallery to view the current exhibit, ?El Baúl de mi Abuelita.? As a souvenir, the museum is offering a free activity where trail visitors can use Gelli® printing to make their own ?Postcard from the Trail?. The museum offers a ?Contemporary Mending? workshop led by Heidi Parkes and a ?Shibori Dyeing? workshop led by Mary Mendla. Both artists will have pop-up studios at the studio as well. Visit award winning basket maker Laura Weber?s exhibit at the Cedarburg Art Museum and then enjoy a short basketry class in Laura?s studio at the Cedarburg Woolen Mill and Shops. Tours are available at the Cedarburg Woolen Carding Mill whose carding machines have produced wool batts since beginning operation prior to the Civil War. Housed in historic Hamilton?s 125-year old schoolhouse, visitors can explore Ye Olde Schoolhouse Quilt Shop. Trail stops also include the Grafton Yarn Store and Material Matters Quilt Shop in Thiensville. The Arts Mill in Grafton hosts Gina Studelska, Ilze Heider Leather Design and the Grafton Yarn Store. The Roastery at the Arts Mill is hosting the After Hours Stitching Social on Saturday from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Cedarburg Spur Trail Fiber Arts Trail members include: Wisconsin Museum of Quilts & Fiber Art, The Cooperage Punch Needle Design Studio, Cedarburg Woolen Mill and Shops, The Pink Llama Art Gallery, Robin M. Fleming Fabric Sculpture and Jewelry, Laura Weber Basketry, Ye Olde Schoolhouse Quilt Shop, Material Matters Quilt Shop, Heidi Parkes Art, Grafton Arts Mill, Rustic Farmhouse Quilting, Gina Studelska Fiber and Mixed Media Art, Mary Mendla Wearable Art and Clothing Design, Ilze Heider Leather Design and Grafton Yarn Store.
