Autumn at the Village
Enjoy a great day in the country for the whole family. Learn about local rural history and sample fall foods. Historic activities will include making hand-dipped candles, making corn-husk dolls, making yarn dolls, pumpkin painting and rope making. Historic demonstrations will include carpentry, blacksmithing, basket making, spinning, storytelling and autoharp playing. Everyone can take part in a 15-minute wagon ride through Hawthorne Hills Park. Pumpkins, squash, gourds, apples, hand-made brooms and fall decorations will be available for sale. Visitors can enjoy a warm bowl of homemade chili with cornbread or chicken with dumpling soup. Other fall foods served to be served are hot cider, pumpkin pie, apple pie or apple slices with caramel sauce. Special Scheduled Presentations Include: 11:00AM - Herb Society will speak about specific herbs. The topic of their presentation will be, 'Taste & Smell the Herbs' and will include a discussion about 12 herbs & ?Savory?, the 2015 Herb of the Year. The presentation includes growing, propagating & sharing, using and preserving herbs. 1:00PM ? Gary Hess-Author of his new book ?Roll Out the Barrels? will talk about his book and family history. His grandfather, Frank J. Hess came to this country from Bohemia and started the Frank J. Hess and Sons Cooperage in Madison after working hard as an apprentice at a cooperage in Chicago and Prairie Du Chien. Gary Hess will have some artifacts from the cooperage on display and will hold a book signing after his presentation. 3:30 Our Lady Of the Rosary, Children?s Choir, Sing-a-Long. The Children's Choir of about a dozen young singers will hold a sing-a-long for everyone, with familiar songs, hymns and anthems. All proceeds benefit the Pioneer Village Hall capital campaign.

Admission is $4 Adults and $3 Children 6 and older. Children 5 and under and OCHS members are free.
